Description
Fixed Knife Extrema Ratio KS. There’s a reason it’s a classic. Made famous by the Gurkha regiments serving under the British Crown, the “Kukri” is a Nepalese universal blade derived from the sickle-shaped swords of ancient Greece. It is ultimately a machete with a very heavy forward blade that allows it to function as an ax while maintaining the versatility of a long blade. Extrema Ratio has developed two such instruments, our KS and KH models, which combine old and modern design concepts. Both use combination mills. A hollow, razor-like edge closer to the handle provides a fine, sharp edge without compromising the overall thickness of the back of the blade (which requires a lot of durability). The tip of the blade is instead flat, well curved to penetrate wood and vegetation effortlessly. While similar tools are usually made from softer steel alloys for flexibility and ease of honing, with BÖHLER N690 hard steel we were able to achieve the corresponding flexibility, resulting in a remarkably durable edge.
