Our story begins in Vietnam, where members of America’s top secret special operations force – known as MACV – SOG – carried a unique secret knife into the jungle on covert missions. A few years later, in 1986, this knife inspired a young designer named Spencer Frazer to found SOG Specialty Knives. Its mission: to reproduce the original SOG Bowie knife and pay tribute to the special operations unit that created it. What started as a single commemorative model soon became a whole line of innovative tools – proven by US Special Forces, even awarded as the Navy SEAL’s knife of choice. The Escape is the perfect size for everyday carry, but still has a tremendous amount of capability thanks to a single hand-opening blade. Integrated into the handle is a string cutter (ideal for cutting cords, strings, seat belts, etc.), a glass breaker for extreme emergencies, our patented wire stripper and additional string cutting knives (which are stored under the handle plate . All of this combined with the spear’s strong semi-serrated blade and hard anodized aluminum handle means I’m ready for anything that might come my way.
